Berlin, 17. September 2021 – MF Mineralöl-Logistik GmbH is using a new tractor unit with CNG technology for its client, the Marketing & Services affiliate of TotalEnergies in Germany. The tank truck supplies TotalEnergies service stations in the Berlin area with fuels and is the first and so far only CNG-powered vehicle used for mineral oil transport in Germany.

Natural gas can be used as a fuel in compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) form. Compared to gasoline and diesel vehicles, natural gas vehicles emit significantly fewer exhaust gases that are harmful to the climate and the environment. For example, LNG emits up to 30 percent less CO2 and CNG 20 to 25 percent less CO2 than diesel. Both CNG and LNG could be replaced by biogas in the long term and thus even become completely CO2-neutral.

"By using trucks with CNG or LNG technology, MF Logistik reduces harmful emissions of soot particles by up to 95 percent compared to diesel fuel," emphasizes Bernd Burmeister, Managing Director of MF Mineralöl-Logistik GmbH.

"At our service stations in Germany, we have already been offering CNG as a fuel for several years. We are very pleased that, in cooperation with our long-standing partner MF Logistik, we can now also implement part of the service station supply with this environmentally friendly technology. In addition to the new CNG truck, we also use an LNG-powered tractor unit to supply our stations. These first two vehicles are the start of an ambitious medium- and long-term project to gradually introduce CNG/LNG trucks to our transport partners", says Jean-Marc Debaty, Director Supply & Logistics at TotalEnergies in Germany.

The vehicle will be refueled at the TotalEnergies service stations in Berlin Alt-Mahlsdorf and Schwanebecker Chaussee in Bernau. There are currently over 90 CNG filling stations in the TotalEnergies network in Germany. The first LNG stations for heavy-duty transport are also scheduled to open this year.
