Electric mobility with a high cruising range
TotalEnergies as trailblazer of hydrogen mobility
The energy mix in the mobility sector is changing. Electric motors will gain in importance in the future. However, while battery-operated cars are handicapped by their limited range and long charging times, there is also an electric alternative that offers the same comfort as classic mobility: hydrogen vehicles with fuel cells.
The car is refueled in a nearly conventional manner within less than five minutes. Through the reaction of hydrogen with air, the fuel cell produces the electric current to power the electric motor and so makes a cruising range of 400 to 600 kilometers possible.
As early as in 2002, TotalEnergies opened its first hydrogen filling station in Germany. Since then, it has been one of the pioneers in the infrastructure development of hydrogen mobility.
Joint-Venture with H2 Mobility
TotalEnergies is a founding member of the joint venture H2 MOBILITY Deutschland, which is responsible for establishing a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure in Germany. The H2 network is already well developed to ensure the supply in the metropolitan areas of Hamburg, Berlin, Rhine-Ruhr, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Munich, and along the connecting arterial roads and motorways. The stations were funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and by the European Union. At all stations, hydrogen cars can refuel with 700 bar, and additionally at some filling stations even light and medium commercial vehicles (e.g. buses) with 350 bar. Further expansion will take place primarily in areas where there is a short-term need for commercial vehicles and where at the same time the hydrogen filling station network for passenger cars can be usefully supplemented.
