Committed to helping refugees
With "TOTAL helps helpers" TotalEnergies supported from 2015 to 2017 associations, institutions and organizations to promote local initiatives for the inclusion of refugees. Since 2017, the company supports the integration of refugees into the labor market.
As an international energy company, TotalEnergies assumes responsibility for important social tasks. This is why in 2015 we launched an initiative to support local refugee aid projects. The nationwide campaign "TOTAL helps helpers" was accompanied by a campaign at around 700 service stations and with flyers handed out to clients during heating oil supplies. The TotalEnergies Refinery in Leuna also participated and supported refugee projects in the South of the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt.
146 Projects funded
Clients, partners and employees could suggest associations and initiatives and thus support refugee aid projects and encourage volunteers and their local projects. Nationwide, a total of 146 projects were funded. The focus was on measures for housing as well as access to the German language and educational measures or cultural integration.
The next step: Integration of refugees into the labor market
With the transfer of a small football field to a collective housing installation in Berlin-Weißensee, TotalEnergies completed its 500,000-Euro program for the initial admittance of refugees. At the same time, the company announced the start of a project for the integration of refugees into the labor market. “With that, we continue to honor our social responsibility and provide people new in Germany with the opportunity to begin building their proper professional perspective”, explained Bruno Daude-Lagrave, former CEO of TotalEnergies in Germany.
The central partner in this second phase of refugee aid is the economic council of the football club 1. FC Union Berlin, who founded the initiative “Türöffner (Door openers) e.V – Job network for refugees”. TotalEnergies initially offers internships to refugees at fuel stations with the aim of giving participants a chance to start their careers.
